Jeddah’s fantastic circuit, dubbed ‘the longest and fastest street circuit’ with its 27 turns will host the second round of the F1 Championship on March 25-27, 2022. Following the success of the first race in December 2021, which saw around 14,000 visitors over the three days, this race will be better with kinks from the first one worked out.
Martin Whitaker, CEO of the Saudi Motorsport Company, the Race Promoter, spoke of the changes in store for the upcoming event:
Improve drivers’ sightline from the cockpit, which will help improve visibility in a couple of corners
Modifications to the barriers to improve the lines the drivers take around the course
Shift some angles of the grandstands to improve visibility of the race
Increase the size and uplift the Fanzones
For traffic management, improve the circuit’s entrance and exit and fix some road characteristics that led to unnecessary delays.
Going forward, the race will always be at the beginning of the Grand Prix season following Bahrain, which will be scheduled for March of each year. For now, the focus is on Jeddah but the construction of the Qiddiya track near Riyadh is ongoing.
Martin Whitaker explained, “There are very few tracks like the one we have on the Corniche, which is challenging, dynamic, long, and super-fast, and in such a stunning location. Jeddah continues to be a dynamic shop window for the country, not only from a sporting perspective but for the business community too.”
